The OLDER AMERICANS' ACT requires that a local agency carry out a wide range of functions designed to lead to the development or enhancement of comprehensive and coordinated community-based programs and services for the elderly in each community. These community agencies are based throughout California and operate under a partnership with the California Department of Aging. The funding for these agencies is partly federal and state as well as local . Some area agencies are administered by the county in which they operate, others are private non profit agencies contracted to administer and develop programs for the elderly that live in the communities served.

Many services are offered by each agency. So if you are having trouble finding a service that you need in your area, each agency has information on programs and services within their area. You can call them for referrals and help finding what you need.
